This campground is a diamond in the rough, because of its absolutely wonderful location on the river with the bike trail passing right by. That made our stay very enjoyable, although its management is just not good. The pool was closed for repairs and actually the whole place needed lots of maintenance, which is too bad. It appears they are backyard mechanics and are struggling to do everything themselves. We were there on Memorial Day weekend and surprisingly, it wasn't overly noisy. There were many permanent campers so after the weekend crowd pulled out, we were basically there by ourselves. Six days in and the garbage was still overflowing and smelling, grass was mowed just on the level spots and not trimmed, and restrooms and showers were as bad as any we've seen so we didn't use them. We probably would look for another campground that accesses the bike trail next time around.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The sites were roomy and we were in a nice shady area. The "greenspace" was pleasant. Access roads were good for bikes as well as the Root River bike trail. The bike trail was paved and shady through the country side and along side the river. On the 4th of July, the campground sponsored a professional fireworks display. The only thing missing was Wifi and cell service was sketchy. We'd definitely visit again.

Friendly staff and a nice stopover. Tubing available, quiet, restrooms clean. Not a destination, but a nice stopover while traveling.

The campground is located in a little mountain river town with a very interesting history and at the trail head for the New River biking and hiking trail which extends for 57 miles along the river through gorgeous mountain scenery. The camp owners have created a "bed and breakfast" atmosphere and the campground is very, very clean and well thought out. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting them, visiting with the folks in the small town and riding the trail. The autumn leaves, rippling shoals of the shallow river, homemade quiche and muffins, and the miles of easy biking will definitely bring us back soon. We stayed a week in a Class B motorhome.

Very nice and shady campground with the beautiful mountains as a backdrop. Attendees were super nice. Luckily, we stopped in for the night and got a site backing up to the rippling creek, even w/out a reservation. Perfect. Everything was clean and well kept. We'll be back.

We absolutely loved this campground. Our only complaint was that we only allowed 2 days and should have planned a week. The ocean was nice with big sandbars, great hiking trail meandered through the "jungle" to the lighthouse and sites were large enough to have some privacy. We'll be back.

Small and clean campground. Friendly and family run. Good for a stopover on the way north or south on Hwy 17. Located just south of Wilmington and north of Myrtle Beach. All sites have water, electric, sewer and cable. Only downside is no bathrooms or shower house, so must be self contained. We'll stop by again if traveling this way and need an overnight stay. Just minutes from stores and from Holden Beach.

This is not a place I'd stay again. Noisy, not well kept and a little bit creepy. We needed a stopover on the way to the Outer Banks, but were disappointed with the potential of the campground. It's in a nice location on the sound, but just not managed well. We ended up moving our RV out into the woods adjacent to the actual campground to get away from the noise and traffic. We did sleep, but with one ear open.

Nice wooded campground. We just stopped over on our journey, but it was a pleasant night. Payment was on the honor system which is unusual these days, but I saw folks dropping in their envelopes thank goodness. We had a nice site and enjoyed walking the loops with our dogs. We always enjoy state and national campgrounds because of the price and scenery.

Our yearly fall destination when the leaves are turning. Sites on the creek are very pleasant. Best part is the bike trails into Townsend and the proximity to the park. We'll be back.
